The Walled Garden Poem by Joe Mcgill

The Walled Garden

from inside
the walled garden
his impudent eye
scanned
the hopeless distance
outside the temperature
broke even
while the earth held on
for the intercession of rain

his mind over ran
with for argument sakes
what ifs and maybes
still
the worst had not yet
come to the worst
though he had a suspicion
something was hiding
behind the night
