The Well Poem by Inbar

The Well

'Maybe if close my eyes
The world won't see me.
I will quietly disappear into a lonely paradise.

The blindfold of the night will maybe hide me for a while
From my own searching, blaming eyes.'

Tears without emotion of a girl who cannot cry.
Helpless victim of her own mortality.
Screaming out her throat in silent whisper of a dying man,
Suddenly aware of her insanity.

Just a little girl beneath the blanket of the world
Avoiding her reflection in the water of the well.
The only hope remaining is a desperate hope for shelter
Where she'll be protected from the demons of herself.

And then the feeling filled her with a new, wonderful strength-
She leaned forward to see her shaking face.
The choice was made. One step to take-
and then she felt the water's cold embrace.
