The Whisperer Poem by Edwina Reizer

The Whisperer

Did I hear a whisper softly in my ear
saying something no one wants to hear?
Who was it whispering softly in my ear
saying those words that put me in fear?
Was it a rabble-rouser making me scared,
trying to make trouble as if he really cared?
I know those words.
I've heard 'em before,
tremblin' and wonderin'
what's in store?
These are the words
troublemakers say.
These are the whispers
that turns your hair gray.

I know who it was whispered in my ear.
I know who said what I don't want to hear.
It's that nervous one that knows me well,
the one who's there to put me through hell.
Who's that troublemaker?
Who can it be?
Why it's only little old me.
