The Woman I Use To Be Poem by Linda Barnes

The Woman I Use To Be

Eyes are the window
To the soul
You cannot hide
What is in your heart

There was innocence
Once before
Replaced by knowledge
Of who you are

Trust was built
On lies and deceit
Which will implode
On you one day

No more anger
Must I feel
Toward this man
You claimed you were

I have no tolerance
For you now
For I am a woman
Who is empowered

I finally realized you see
Power was not yours to keep
For no man will ever believe
The woman I use to be
