The Wonderful Porch Poem by Marilyn Lott

The Wonderful Porch

I sure miss the old back porch
What a wonderful storage place
In which to put boots and such
So the entry wasn’t such a disgrace

I remember hearing as a kid
“Take off your boots, ” mom called
Before we even came in the house
We eliminated getting where we’d trod

Coats were hung up as well
Small garden tools perched on the wall
One home had lots of windows
A place to put plants in the fall

Then there’s the terrific front porch
Nice and long and oh, so handy
For sittin’ in the hot afternoons
Or sheltered from rain too was dandy

Wraparound porches especially south
Was just perfect for the summer heat
Kids rode tricycles ‘round and ‘round
They thought that was really neat

But of course things always change
Porches were not in vogue for a while
But now with large homes back again
And I think porches once again are in style!
