The World In My Head Poem by sam furman

The World In My Head

Is it a Recession?
Is it a Depression?
It’s definitely become
Our National Obsession!

And the nationwide News
With their ‘expert’ views
Does nothing more than
Help spread the blues

“with more job layoffs”
“Senate seat payoffs”
and tonight at 10 – there’s
Moron the Madoffs

New corporate greed
As the CEO’s plead
It feels like we’ve all just been
A-I-G ’d

Our grand legislators
Hopeful ‘liberators’
Have become nothing more now
Than just great debaters

Lots of politics
But no real quick fix
We’ve run out of time for
Their rhetorics

We need a solution
A “New Revolution”
Not more of the same old
Noise Pollution

So I’m hoping that congress
Can clean up their big mess
And stop pointing fingers,
‘cause no one is blameless

And we’re all included
That can’t be disputed
We once turned a blind eye,
Now deaf, dumb & muted

But it’s helped make things clearer,
We can’t live cavalier (er)
Our resources; our planet,
We must hold them dearer

Perhaps now we can see
Our road to recovery
Lies in stem cells, or wind farms
Or some great discovery

From lab or from board room,
Or surface of Neptune
Regardless of where,
I hope that it comes soon

‘cause it would be a pity
And sure won’t be pretty
If this nation becomes
One big tent city!
