Then We Cried Poem by Mike Kosman

Then We Cried

I was in the father's waiting room
Pacing up and down
Back and forth across the floor
My head was spinning round
The nurse came in and said come see
Your little baby girl
With my hands and face against the glass
I whispered welcome to our world

Then I ran to the recovery room
And I held my darling's hand
Said I'm so lucky you're my woman
And I'm so proud to be your man
And I'm so proud of how you handled this
And I feel so good inside
She threw up
Then we cried

With number two I was so cool
I'd been through this before
I smiled as I watched a young man pacing
Up and down the floor
Then they called my name and said come see
Your little baby boy
As I said hello my eyes got wet
And my heart filled up with joy

The I ran to the recovery room
And said I'm such a lucky one
Our daughter is so beautiful
Now you've given me a son
Honey I'm so proud of you
And I feel so good inside
She threw up
Then we cried

A few years past and I found myself
Talking with an engineer
In that same old father's waiting room
I was trying to kill his fears
Then they called my name and said come see
Your brand new baby boy
As I welcomed him again I felt
That over whelming joy

Then I ran to the recovery room
And said babe what can I say
You've given o so much to me
I'm such a happy man today
And honey I'm so proud of you
And I feel so good inside
She threw up
Then we cried
