The house, I said to myself, for I felt it
Though I saw no writing and heard no whisper;
But the husband was walking confidently with a swag,
And the good wife was singing softly out of tune;
And there was a look of joy on their faces,
That I knew could mean only one thing, and no other.
There is love in this house!
The lady, I said to myself, for I felt it
That the lady before me was certainly in love;
And there on her finger was shiny ring,
And I saw on the wall a framed picture;
And in it the gowned lady and dressed smiling couple,
Two hands tightly interwoven speak it all, to each other.
There is love in this house!
The man, I said to myself, for I felt it
That the man before me was certainly in love;
And there in his sitting room early at home,
And I saw on the ground, litter not required;
And with a smile he cleaned the room of the smiling couple,
Two pinches on her buttocks made her jump into his arms.
There is love in this house!
The food, I said to myself, for I felt it
That they ate was certainly out of love;
And there in their dining table, not spectacular,
And I saw on the table, no special meal;
And with smiles they dinned in the room of the smiling couple,
Two plates quickly cleaned then they walked into each other's arms.
There is love in this house!
