There Was A Time Poem by Francis Duggan

There Was A Time

There was a time when you called me darling but now that seems some while ago
And love has died between us and apart we've seemed to grow
You now have only eyes for someone else with me you do not have to stay
Of love and happiness for you I won't stand in your way.

We are not the first to fall in and out of love and we will not be the last
And though we may have good memories of what was the past is now the past
And though passion between us is extinct and our love is at an end
In your future I wish you well and I will always be your friend.

But life goes on as it always does and the Seasons will come and go
And the stream from the higher ground down to the river flow
And though love can be a source of joy it too can be a hurtful thing
Of love's bliss and disappointments the singer songwriter sing.

There was a time when you called me darling and between us love's passion it did glow
But for few love last till death do them part as you and I well know
You now have only eyes for someone else you do what you have to do
And I wish you well in love and life and that things work out for you.
