These Are The Years Poem by Elizabeth Forrest

These Are The Years

Living each day
forgetting the future nears
a little voice whispers
these are the years

We search for identity
not just a name for name
we search for truth
fueling lifes flame

While looking for answers
to questions yet unknown
I ponder and I wonder
as I sit here all alone

Silence reigns over me
as words eat me alive
words........ words
feeling the emptiness inside

The sights I invision
the twilight would proclaim
my youthful mind
may be questionably insane

I dance with ghosts
shadows from my dream
but when I awaken
they arn't what they seem

The battle cries
we all have sung
no one rests
until the battle is won

Justice will proclaim
a treaty for all
ignorance will ignore
and in the end, they'll fall

Something I have seen
from a long time ago
has affected my thoughts
and the things I now know

Harsh words bleed endlessly
like needles at my heart
judgemental eyes like daggers
are tearing me apart

Life has many rivers to cross
many mountains stand in the way
we have choices, we have chances
seize what we may

Knowing yourself
and everything you see
is the key that unlocks
part of life's mystery

The past fades away
along with our thoughts
gone are the yesterdays
tomorrow is sought

So... as you live each day
and forget the future nears
listen, for a little voice whispers,
these are the years
