They Call It Progress Poem by Martin Webb

They Call It Progress

In the West

Where the last spirit of
America is dying

Where the last frontier of wildness
remains the fruit of the unconquered

Where the last footsteps
of a living dream
were seen upon the land

This is where my heart lives and
clings to freedom

This is the story I know best-
the story of my life
