Thinking I Was Happy Poem by Dorothy (Alves) Holmes

Thinking I Was Happy

Rating: 5.0

I danced,
Made happy chatter
And
Like a bird on wing
Nestling her young
I sang a lighthearted melody
Thinking I was happy
Now I am as silent as the dark of night
My feet are molded in clay
I close my windows to the chirping
Of foolish birds
Cold reality
Stole my heart's song!
