You were unprepared
when she entered
into your life,
there was no warning.
You were scared
but you loved her
more than you can explain.
You whispered
How long must I wait?
I said, just a little more
and you confessed.
You were happy
when she felt the same
holding hands
kissing when you can.
You went away
with her, far away
I stayed
just in case, for you.
You came back, crying
How long must I cry?
I said, just a little more
and you fell asleep.
You waited
for a shadow that never came
in the dark you were
I saw you fall apart.
You waited a bit more
for her to come running
but she never did
she was long gone.
You kept waiting, crying
How long must I wait?
I said, just a little more
maybe you’ll see me
but you never did.
