This Most Unlikely Of Miracles Poem by Dennis Ryan

This Most Unlikely Of Miracles

Monday morning, May 30,2005,9 a.m.

- for Kim

"I'm overwhelmed by the impossible Mary, a miracle's a miracle,
they say, but it isn't; a miracle becomes the world... "
- George Oppen, from a letter

This sea of the brine of life,
this one phase and of all phases,
this bird, this branch, this bush—
whatever is most common,
most ordinary, most near
and most easy is us,
this most unlikely of miracles,
this origin of all poems,
this most unlikely conjunction,
this two this us.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
