This Poem Is For Them Poem by Leandra Gebrakedan

This Poem Is For Them

Here I stand surrounded by dark soulless eyes alone
Here I stand without a place to call home

My only solace at the end of the day is my bed
But the solace is short lived, as I remember loved ones which are dead

Stripped of my dignity, and my name they can’t pronounce
Derogatory looks and sometimes they will pounce
Stolen their jobs and houses they are cross
Do they believe a menial job and single room, would compensate for my loss?

Without food in my belly and a penny in my pocket, I walk for miles.
I have my faith and that’s enough to make me smile
I am no longer surrounded by people to love
Fortunately I can rely on him up above

I am settled in my own way, I will not complain
About the recession or the rain

This poem is for all those who can not read or write
Its for their benefit, on their behalf, that I will continue to fight
