Those Days Poem by Charles Wamuti

Those Days

The day we realized we are not gods,
We quivered in fear like peas in a pod,
Knowing that there was more than us,
We stuck together for better or worse.

The day we realized there are no gods,
We trembled in dread of the evil hoards,
But we knew all we needed was the other,
In this land we knew as our father and mother.

The day we realized that they are no gods,
We attacked them with sticks and rods,
We knew they would bleed as we,
Our machetes we brandished for them to see.

Now that we do not know if there is a God,
All we can do is lovingly bond,
For days of hate are long slain,
And our sins washed away by the godly rain.
