Those Who Are Jealous Of You Poem by Francis Duggan

Those Who Are Jealous Of You

Those who are jealous of you it may seem strange to say
Are paying you a compliment in a sort of a way
It may sound hard to believe but you they admire
And to be just like you is their secret desire.

The words of well known pschyologists I only quote
And on such things they are experts and their comments worthy of note
Like anger is known to be an offspring of scorn
Out of admiration jealousy can be born.

Of human behaviour I cannot say I know much about
And the words of the experts on it I cannot say I doubt
Many of us for attention do like to compete
And our egos are inflated by self conceit.

Some who are jealous of you strange as it does seem
Do secretly hold you in quite high esteem
On such the most of the experts on behaviour do tend to agree
Which seems rather puzzling it does seem to me.
