I could not believe that you were there
By my side, fingers running through my hair
How did I get to be there, with you at my side?
Behind a barrier, I had always found a place to hide

You were too good for me, I knew that well
But deep in my heart, a love for you still seemed to dwell
Caught in a vicious circle of loss and pain
Before you came, I thought that I had nothing in life to gain

When I realized that I was so very wrong
I hoped that our love would stay good and strong
But just as quickly as you had come, you were gone
Then a realization deep down in me seemed to dawn

I’m better than I had been before
Healed are the cuts that I once bore
You taught me how to live life to the fullest
You are my past, but the memory of us will still exist
