Threat Perceptions Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Threat Perceptions

Undisciplined.
And entitled with freedoms,
To interpret a doing...
What it is they please.
While ignoring the warnings,
Of an epidemic.
That continues to spread a virus,
One described as a unique novelty.
People thankless and ungrateful.
Disrespectful.
Self centered.
Hypocritical and flaunt self righteousness.
Come begging on knees,
Seeking to be protected.
From a disease to have ignored.

Yet...
Demand attention to them be paid,
Arriving unannounced...
Storming through emergency hospital doors.
When the effects of a virus spreading,
Has them beginning to feel but not expect...
A keeping a social distance refusing to respect,
Would come to victimize their lives.
Threating the possibility of death!

"You had been told and warned to be prepared! "

-I know. I know. I know.
But after the picnic we all went to the beach.
Not thinking that virus,
Would stalk us like those creeps on the streets.-

"Oh?
So what were you looking for?
Something that would identify,
Your perception of a threat? "

-No.
Nothing like that.
I am a 'liberal' not racist at all.-

"Huh? What? "
