Through The Looking Glass Poem by B3k Baylon

Through The Looking Glass

What lies beneath is neither a wolf nor a sheep…
‘tis a doppelganger coming from underneath.
A soul full of doubts and seeking divine relief,
From the lies this world led her to believe.

Believe it or not she does dream of affection,
She gained a lot more than loving attention.
Though she did not experience total rejection,
Alas…this girl’s very much a contradiction.

Indeed, fear of being manipulated comes into play,
For she was born and raised the dominant way…
She is yet to learn the virtue of Humility,
‘Hope that soon pride’s replaced with dignity.

But even If she’s proud and adamant,
The disregard of self-love’s not left rampant.
Stood by herself amidst the emotional storm,
Remained strong and deviant of the stupid norm.

Don’t let human waste pillage your self-respect.
Let ‘em, and then you’re left with an ill defect…
For only those who learn to love first their own self,
Can withstand the forces and live by themselves.

Now what lies beyond the laughter were,
Sad tears and unspoken fears…thereafter,
A battle half won against the worst nemesis (thyself) ,
Fought behind an impenetrable aegis…

Can’t commit to another soul just yet…
The war waged isn’t over and so she bets,
That once the strife and fighting is over,
There’ll be redemption and peace cometh after.

Indeed there exists and empty shell…
The space within like a bottomless well.
It strives to be filled with understanding,
To satisfy a mortal whim notwithstanding.
