Time Poem by Andrew Wright

Time

Rating: 3.5

When next you hear the belfry chime,
Console yourself that you are doing "time",
Throughout the war our fight continues,
Against old man time we direct our sinews,
Time is the enemy at our gate,
Attack the foe while it's not too late,
Secure each second, minute, hour,
Time is an ally of striking power,
We've time in plenty to spend in talking,
Time more than chance for long range walking,
Time to argue the hours away,
Time to sleep till break of day,
Time (but not fags) for chain end smoking,
Time (but nowt else for coupon chancing)
Time (but no girls) to spend in dancing,
Time (but no hooch) to spend in drinking,
Time, for thought, and still more thinking,
Time, for having one's kit a-shining,
Time, for painting a silver lining,
Time, its trumpet, whistle, sing,
Time, given the will for anything,
Yet there'll always be those few sublime,
Who dodge some issue because they haven't time.
