In this life I have taken in sights
Such wonders that are so very grand
Things that were once full of might
I have seen crumbling in the dark sand
Upon man's first fire did I lay gaze
And saw with it the first damned spark
These eyes saw through the smoky haze
That light that went through the dark
Those first words of love I also heard
Whispers of hot sweet breath in the cold
The first song that rang out from a bird
Is so gentle for it be so utterly old
I watch and hear all that is or will be
Time's vigil is to never act but to see
