Time Snickers

Time Snickers
(a poem by Shakil Ahmed)

Callous time runs swiftly
With its own accord
Mournful life goes ahead
With slight ocassional variations
Accompanying its fret and fever

We feel helpless on seeing
Vacant look of thirsty beggars,
Goping hands of haunting blind
Hobbling gate of wavering old man
Life doesn't forgive anyone
From its pernicious and fiery clutch.

Man comes in this world
As a small slobbering baby
And turns a full grown man
By palping air of rolling spring
Youth enters stilthilly
In a lovely autumn night
Shuddering our thrilling heart
With unending ecstatic delight
But soondelight pales
Ensnaring us in the net of old age
Youth vanishes like a whiff of winter
Gathering tears in our sobbing eyes
Tears dribble like summer's raiIn
In flickering moon-lit night
On a certain ominous day
We embark on death's vessel
For a journey towards eternity
Behind the curtain, callous time
Snickers like a frivolous girl
At the plight of mortal men.
