'Tis The Conquerors Who Rule Poem by Francis Duggan

'Tis The Conquerors Who Rule

Dipossession and marginalization the lot of Indigenous people Worldwide
By the descendants of their oppressors equality of them is denied
Fringe dwellers in their own Countries 'tis the conquerors who rule
The descendants of the people who took pleasure in being cruel
To the people whose Land they took by force and who by them were marginalized
That Indigenous people nowadays do not rule their Countries I cannot say I feel surprised
It is rule by majority and that's how it will remain
And the dispossessed will never rule in their Homelands again
Dispossession has been going on for centuries and as for the dispossessed
They become marginalized in their own Country as well as being oppressed
By those who dispossessed them the ascendancy never more to regain
Their sense of disappointment at their betrayal one should not have to explain
The Prime Minister or the President of the World's big Countries who command the highest place
You will not trace their ancestry to the Countries Indigenous Race.
