To Be Or Not To Be....Alone Poem by Michael Garrett

To Be Or Not To Be....Alone

Rating: 4.5

To be alone is not a fear,
Eat and sleep with no one near.
Lie then rise from a silent bed,
And listen to nothing, no one said.

Yet meat and bread may taste their best,
With mother, father and all the rest.
Surrounded by their loving charms,
Wrapped in kisses and others' arms.

The moon and stars seem to share,
The night, the sights that make us stare.
However close they appear to be,
They are vastly distant, in reality.

People can seem the same,
Close together but know no names.
Daily pass each other by,
With no wave, nor smile nor simple "Hi"

To some solitude may be preferred,
To a life where one's wants, are deferred.
For when life ends and they die,
They leave no one to mourn or cry.

For many Humans, Swans, French Angel Fish,
A life connected is their wish.
Family, friends are left bereaved,
Huddled together to care and grieve.

Both roads will lead to the same place,
The choice is either a relay or race.
What a surprise to find ourselves,
Deep and dark on Earthy shelves.

For those that live in others company,
Eternal solitude is their irony.
And for those loners that find this jest,
Theirs' is an eternity of worms as guests.
