To Bear With Poem by sodoko zavaki

To Bear With

I run as fast as I can
My breath is getting heavy
I try to run faster but my legs are giving out
My throat starts to burn and I gasp for air
I hope I make it in time
Thoughts race through my mind and I shake my head and keep running
I finally came to a halt
I hear a gunshot and see a body fall to the ground
I yell out his name and run forward
I cradle his body on my knees as tears stream down my face
I feel for a pulse and wait for a reassuring "thump thump…"
There is no sound
Just dead silence
I glance at his pale face
Crying, I clutch my shirt
I was too late…
