To Collette On Her Birthday Poem by Francis Duggan

To Collette On Her Birthday

Oh I do remember you Collette
Nor am I likely to forget
You skipping rope by cottage door
Though since much water has flown to sea shore.

You were such a sweet young lass
And every time your way I'd pass
You'd greet me with a warm hello
You were nice so nice to know.

Of your calling in life so sure
You left your old home in Annagloor
For to help others through their pain
Ireland's loss is England's gain.

And what a fine nurse you must be
Full of true humanity
And a good nurse cannot be fully paid
As she is born but never made.

May you never experience woe
And may happiness in your life grow
And may the winds of good fortune blow
For you and your young man from Mayo
