I didn’t do a thing
I set out to do!
I didn’t fold the laundry
Stacked high on the couch,
Or cleaned out the closet
All cluttered with junk.
I didn’t cook *Abuela’s meat stew!
I didn’t do a thing
I set out to do!
I didn’t take Finny
For his long morning walk
Or feed poor Cookie
Purring at the door
I didn’t look for Isa’s lost shoe!
I didn’t do a thing
I set out to do!
I didn’t wash the dishes
Still sitting in the sink
Or clean the sticky counters
All covered in jam
I didn’t paint my toenails blue!
I didn’t do a thing
I set out to do!
But wait, on second thought,
There was at least a thing or two.
I wrote this poem,
Which took all morn,
And then I sat and
Thought of you!
*Abuela – Spanish for “Grandmother”
