I don't really know -
why it happened as it did.
I just gave my prayer to God -
then you came into my heart to live.
I never really knew for certain -
what friendship was all about.
Now, I know for sure in my heart -
and say that without any doubts.
Sometimes it seems so unreal -
like a dream that has come true.
I know it's not dream now -
as I have been graced by you.
Searching sometimes in darkness -
for someone to be a friend to me,
But then, you came along, and -
touched my heart so tenderly.
"Total strangers" I once thought -
finding a heart to belong,
But that all changed as I learned -
to sing the "friendship song."
Perhaps, as lonely as I thought I was -
seeking someone who would care,
I found someone special in you -
and know that you are always there.
It didn't matter who or what creed -
what color or even what age,
It only mattered that we became -
friends on the very same page.
I never dreamed that in a lifetime -
I could see Jesus so plain and clear,
despite the pain, the grief, and trials -
through you He is so very near.
I remember once reading something -
a scripture in the holy book,
"Blessed are the poor of spirit, the merciful -
no matter who they are ore how they look."
"Blessed are the peacemakers" it read -
for certainly they shall see God."
Blessed I became indeed, and graced -
as you gave me a friendly nod.
We are never too young or old -
too wise, wealthy or poor.
When I embraced your friendship -
it opened many unlocked doors.
It was an unlocked door in my life -
to a heart I could never dream,
your support, kindness, and caring -
just took hold and overwhelmed me.
I suppose we might never feel -
the full impact in our lives, that is true,
But I've come to realize over time -
that to know you as a friend...
is to love you!

This is a very warm and tender poem Steve. I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Bernard. I appreciate your kind comment. I have many more to post, but will like to view some others. Now, I can view yours. I just joined, so this is kind of new to me. There is a letter in the poem that doesn't belong there and I don't know how to edit it. Thanks.
