To My Best Friend Poem by Anonymous Still

To My Best Friend

Rating: 5.0

We were just like cold winter days
And our friendship was the bruised knee
Paining as we took step together every year
Stumbling, we tried maintaining a balance
But how could we
When your love seemed to be a chocolate candy
While I had a toothache
Was I right or wrong letting you go, I still wonder sometimes
We made promises, thousands of them
Like lego blocks, building our own beautiful world
Only to be crushed by feet again
We were the impulsive children
Finding instant happiness and permanent sadness
My father told me how fluidity made the working of heavy machines easier
I wish relationships worked on hydraulics too
It wouldhave been easier maintaining them in the long run
But ours was a friction road
Whose lanes divided my chest
Into incoming and outgoing of people
Traffic seemed to be greater always at the latter one
Maybe I could have done something the other way
Where love was my birth right
Rather a self doubt which needed to be settled
Everytime someone showed an ounce of care towards me
You did the same
Yet I let you slip through
When I carried you like water to make a lake in my heart parched of happiness I sometimes guess I deserved
You grew flowers for yourself as you fell
And I had only drops of you left
You had promised to be the cactus who stored water for the desert I became
But you grew thorns on yourself
And now every time I touch you, my hands bleed
Maybe some relations demand blood when they are our own blood
We bled feeding the hungry vampires of doubts
Now our friendship lie dead on a road
And the passerbys move alongside it
We are the passerbys
Ignoring tragedies are synonymous to no tragedies maybe
Was our friendship a beautiful tragedy, modern day dark tale or perhaps a side effect of realism?
When did we change so much
That we became a symbol of side glances and lose handshakes
Our lavender fragrant memories started rotting under tha vast sky covered with black clouds
Our promises which felt like prayers between the lips
Turned into a bad song whose lyrics lingered like a faulty record playing continuously
We were meant to be vision of this relationship
But dear friend, when did we turn so blind?
