To Old To Know.(Don't Forget To Remember!) Poem by Geoffrey Fafard

To Old To Know.(Don't Forget To Remember!)

Some tell me I am too old
To remember oh ….

Like True fear

I remember that crocodile
In the moonlight
Far up Cape York
On my own
With breath stalled
So close to death
Face to face
Sand spraying my mouth
-
(I was fearful that night)

Like true love

I remember that girl
Hair of golden moonbeams
Smelling of night bloom
Hidden wildflowers
I trembled with her touch
-
(I was in love that night)

Like the spirit of blood

I remember that baby girl
Lying in my arms
And the both of us
Singing songs to the stars
-
(I held a daughter that night)

Like true courage

I remember
Friends carrying me
On a stretcher
From below the mountain
Where I fell
To the top-days of walking
Giving up their water
For their friend
-
(I had their energy that night)

Like true friendship

I remember the days you waited
Patiently watching over me
Protecting me from drama
Protecting me from myself
And then asking for
Nothing in return

(I had you that night)

You know I am lucky
Because Iremember
All off this
And Ithinkthat's
Plenty enough
