There are over one billion people
Living in slums in today's world
Trying to get enough to eat
Millions of children are hurled
Into the middle of this chaos
Forced onto streets to beg and plead
With any who will take pity
To meet life's basic need
Of food, pawns in a vast city
Whose economy lives off the poor
In a world globalized by pure greed
Where those in charge care not
For humanity's most basic need.
