Too Few Yet Understand

Though every land the gospel’s taught
The harvest’s not as planned
We share with man the true report
But few still understand

We fail to open blinded eyes
To sever bond and chain
To bind the devil or his lies
Or ease his victim’s pain

The lost we need to show the way
In language plain and true
Yet words of old king James today
Serve but to cloud their view

Before his bible came to be
Before James’ tongue was there
Before to god man spoke with “thee”
God’s sheep received their share

No more is James the common wine
God speaks as you and I
No need converse with thee and thine
Allow what’s old to die

The living word can save from hell
Cast stumbling blocks aside
If truth today were serving well
We’d let God’s wisdom guide

In James’s time the old was fine
But now it’s played its part
If man would serve God’s fresh new wine
Revival soon could start

Today we too must meet the need
Like those who’ve gone before
With food the current sheep will feed
We’ll open wide life’s door…
