Town Of Tears Poem by Emily Lennox

Town Of Tears

Somebody let the light in.
My life is awfully dim.
I don’t know what’s happening.
It’s quite a confusion that I’m in.

I wish you’d wake me up
From this morbid dream.
While everyone wears perfect masks,
My life is a stream.
Fast and slow, losing control
Of everything it seems.
The Public's eyes sparkle.
But mine are overcast,
They’re dark and do not gleam.

I am not myself some days.
I change to please Their wicked ways.
I am an alien creature.
I am alone in a crowd.
Everyone stares, I have no dignity,
Of course, I am not proud.

I feel Their faces burn with hate,
As I innocently walk by.
Wisdom tells me I should wait,
Life will be great,
It is just not my time to fly.

But I’m trapped in this pain,
It won’t go away
No matter how much I try.
I have yet to win Their acceptance,
And I don’t know why.
