Travesty Of Justice Poem by Dr John Celes

Travesty Of Justice

For two decades and more,
An Indian jailed in Pak,
Caught on a spying charge,
Languished in jail till date.

The charge was never proved;
The prisoner stayed in jail;
His case was mishandled;
He was never released.

Justice had failed once more!
He pleaded innocent;
But no one truly cared;
He suffered in silence.

His family cried and begged;
But Pak did not relent;
They tried to make a case,
But never succeeded.

His term in jail ended;
But he was not released;
Justice got long delayed;
The man’s pleas went in vain.

A ‘scuffle’ in his cell:
Two-cellmates battered him,
With iron rods and bricks,
And made him comatose.

An act of mere revenge
For hanging of a man
From Pak, proved terrorist,
After a fair trial.

Now neighbours fight in vain;
A war of words erupt;
An innocent is dead,
Life spent in alien jail.

Is there not justice fair
In modern world of late?
A man is killed outright,
By murder foul in jail!

Who can console his kin?
Who can comfort hearts hurt?
Who can bring back life lost
Of Sarabjit, Indian?

This is a story true,
Written in bloody tears,
Engraved in hearts so dear,
That will remain for long!

Can nations never change?
Are people without hearts?
An innocent was killed
In brutal most, a way!

Travesty of justice
Should nev’r happen to men,
Upon the face of earth
To friend or foe, alien!

May his soul rest in peace!
May aggrieved hearts get calmed!
May crimes nev’r repeat
and cause nations’ ill-will!

Lovingly dedicated to the brave Indian,
Who sacrificed his life,
And lives in Indian hearts,
For many years to come!
