Trench Life Poem by cutie satan

Trench Life

sitting around in a hole
in not able to leave
in not about to move much
limited space
smells that linger in the trench
corpse all around
people scared
thoughts that won't leave
i'm in a trench
guns being set fire
shells being dropped
become half deaf just because the explosions are too loud
twitching when i listen to them
stuttering after every other word i say
covered in blood of the others
heroes everywhere but also
just as many cowards
surrounded by weak
recruited we have been
poor boys
and shocked we shall be
on one saving anyone else
every man for himself
we tell each other
fungus growing in the soles of our shoes
skin falling off of our feet
water up to our knees
let's sticking out of the walls
the smell of rotting bodies filled our nostrils
each and every soldier too scared to fight
to scared to retreat
wind up dead
looking out of the trench will cause your dead
look out and dead you will be
commanding officer is calm
he is the hero
chill as can be
he is the real thing
saving lives
sharpening our knives
risking his life not ours
life changing decisions is what he makes
after days of being our own slaves we return to home
life is different
shell shocked we return
flinching with every move
twitching with every blink
cringing at the memories
mind going blank
flashbacks
triggered by simple things
question after questions after questions
what is your questions?
it's ok i won't mind answering
i am a survivor who has been living in a bad dream
but that is ok
maybe living like this can help me
i will only have a struggle getting a job
that's all
i will only hurt those around me
that's all
i will only live in regret the rest of my life
THAT'S ALL..

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
this is a poem i wrote for an assignment in one of my history classes in high school. we were learning about life in war so i wrote my lost generation poem about war. the assignment gave us many things we can do we didn't have to write. we could have done a dramatic reading but poetry has always caught my attention.
