Try Poetry! Poem by Denis Martindale

Try Poetry!

From ancient psalms to hymns and songs, from lullabies to love,
From each lament to righting wrongs, from almost to enough.
From limericks to epic themes, from passions borne of youth,
From acrostics on to daydreams, from fantasies to truth.
If not for poems, what has led the amateurs and triers?
If not for poems, who would wed the one love each admires?
If not for poems, day and night, what would this world become?
And this shows why the poets write, for one and all not some.

Behold the famous of all rhymes, still quoted to this day,
Still meant to lead to happy times, or meant as prayers to pray.
Behold the legacy God gave to poets young and old,
Meant from the cradle to the grave for both the shy and bold.
Behold the prophecies of hope that melt away Man's fears,
That even now still cross the globe explaining future years.
Yet there are poems still to pen, a billion that's for sure,
To help lost souls get born again, to live forever more.
