Twenty Five Summers Poem by sharon Genade

Twenty Five Summers

You said you have twenty - five summers left,
My heart slowed a little, it went quiet,
Twenty-five summers…. only Twenty Five.
So many I have missed with you and it made me sad inside,
My mind muted.
It observed and remained silent,
And I dreamed of those summers with you.

Long, Long summers.
Sultry, heated summers,
laughter and adventures,
Too many adventures,

Long bike rides, over mountains and seas,
Many, many sunsets to watch, hand in hand,

Us sitting on hills quaffing wine like ignorant experts,
Us watching the moon and seeing satellites pass in orbit,
Gazing at stars falling,
Space and time, the irrelevance of it, meaningless.

Destinations to far flung places, meaningful conversations with strangers,
Celebrations and fun and dancing on tables,
Catching the wrong train home or not getting it at all.

Heated debates,
Soft, tender, deep kisses,
Deeper conversations,
Laughter, laughter, laughter,
so many bursts of playful laughter.
Antecedent time, like a slow motion black and white film,
I see it all, I feel it all.
Us and twenty-five summers.
Me and you.
