Two Face Of Hope Poem by Elizabeth Fletcher

Two Face Of Hope

Emily Dickinson once claimed
That hope was like a creature with wings,
And it continues to sing
Even through great despair. Fear hope tamed.

But I see both sides of hopes' sweet face.
Sure, it may lift the soul,
But what, I ask, is the toll?
What happens once you have a taste

Of your deepest dreams and desires?
Well, you are filled with hope for more.
Hope can be a FILTHY little liar!
It can scar you at your very core...

It tells you it is possible to obtain
Everything your heart continues to crave.
So all you have is on the line, and is lain
As an offering that you have been told will save

Your loved one from death.
Yet your hope has been a waste!
You were doomed after that first taste,
For hope, is as addictive as meth.

You gave hope all you ever owned...
Now she is dead.
Now all you have left is memories of her painful moans.
Your heart is heavier then lead.

Hope, with it's smiling mask,
Has cheated you
So I now give you thisone task...

Don't let it cheat me too.
