Two Wooden Crosses Poem by Anthony Smith

Two Wooden Crosses

Rating: 4.9

The keys are in.
Our belts are on.
Now its time
To turn it on.

The engine revs.
The car gets warm
As we leave
Before the storm.

We will get there
You will see
We will get there
My friend and me

To the prom
Is where we will go
The roads are slick
With ice and snow

Ten short minutes
We will drive that night
The end of this
Will be a fright

The bridge was far
Too slick for me
My car slid off
And hit a tree

Two wooden crosses
Are on that spot
Some may see them
Some may not

We did not make it
On that day
“They did not make it”
All will say

We did not make it
To our prom
“They did not make it”
They’ll tell my mom
