Two Worlds In Which I Dwell Poem by Indigo Rose Christman

Two Worlds In Which I Dwell

There are two worlds in which I dwell, all alone in this paradise.
The world in which my body rests is bursting with exhilaration.
Everything around me is rejoicing in the arrival of spring
The flowers dance as their petals unfurl and a breeze sings its faint song.
The sun’s rays snuggle me in their arms making me relish the afternoon light.
Wispy clouds race above me, playing peek- a- boo with patches of gloriously blue sky.
A choir of creatures enhances the beauty: Birds sing the melody, high and sweet.
Tree’s husky voices whisper in the breeze.
Little fuzzy bees hum low and melodically.
All the while my mind exists in a fantasy world.
Small black letters, in uniformly straight rows, transport me to a lush forest.
I walk along unnoticed behind a young boy and girl, laden heavily with packs.
Squirrels scold me from the branches of the mighty trees.
The ancient oak chuckles as a pinecone is dropped dangerously close to my head.
There is a distinct sweet scent to the air, like just before a rain.
Branches reach out to tickle my face and muss my hair.
I gasp as shadows break away from the trees and fall upon the travelers.
Those who I have been following spin,
to face the oncoming attack with fierce determination etched into their faces.
I stand in awe as I admire the characters I know so much about.
I have begun to care for them like close friends.
So I walk in a shadowy forest, while I sit in a field bright with spring,
So I watch my friends succeed, as I listen to a choir of trees, birds, and bees.
So I read silently in a field of flowers, as I laugh at a scolding from a squirrel.
So I revel in this ultimate paradise: when I am in the two worlds in which I dwell.
