Uncovered Poem by Lauren Humphrey

Uncovered

Shake these covers.
Shake these tides.
Uncover the hidden truth.
Uncover what is me.

Evaluation time.
So breathe in deep.
This solid slate is bare.
So tell me what could be.

Sallow me whole,
Take me within
Save this burden from us both.
Save this empty soul.
Pleasure the world,
By fixing the problem.
Pleasure your ego,
By doing what’s “right.”

Savor the victory.
Bask in your wonder.
Saying it’s about everyone else,
But only your self-gain truly shines through.

I’m dying slowly.
You’re killing me softly.
This pressure is caving in.
My walls are falling down.
I’m here alone,
Left uncovered,
By you.
