Uncovered Poem by Dave Dunn

Uncovered

Uncovered

Tombstones stacked against a wall
graves uncovered - they're moving all.
Hallowed ground this used to be,
But the church has gone and so will we.

Yet we linger in this misty vale,
a silent chatter, though we may yet wail,
as more earth moves aside to reveal,
the bones that time has yet to steal.

And when all our stark unclad bones are shown,
Where will they take us, or must we roam?
To new consecrated land nearby perchance,
or will they lead us a merry dance.

Onto another churchyard to meet other whisps,
of souls that occupy their own damp mists,
will whispers circulate among those spirits,
'whence did they come from' and cause some fidgets.

Disturbed as we they may well moan,
as strange bones are laid into their home,
what peace can each regain in time,
as they ponder on this heinous crime.

And what will come to fill this space.
a shopping mall built at some great pace
with music playing and cars parked above
where our graves were once maintained with love.
