Unexpected Death Poem by Cheyenne Joyner

Unexpected Death

Walking towards the building
Going in
Drinking
Smoking
Hours later…
Walking... stumbling out
Fumbling with the keys
Unlocking the door
It was a nice car
New
Driving home
Switching from one lane
To another
Swerving in the road
Running lights
Hitting mailboxes

In the other car:
Driving home from work
Going to see wife and kids
Turning the corner
Lights shining right at him

Sirens
Lights
An ambulance
A death
An injured man
An unexpected death
Of a great man
Just driving home from work
