Universal Light Poem by Michael Walkerjohn

Universal Light

If later
the atmosphere
speaks, enlightening
a single consciousness
causing a species wide
elation where humankind’s
faces light up the stars
inspiring each tried and tired
soul to awake suddenly
in the remembrances
of the hunger for all of
living’s roots and pause
bringing even my mind
comfort for this instant
I will elatedly squander
my completeness
my heart
my coveted
dreams of souls
who hold
an alliance
with the clouds
and let loose
my pen upon
this anxious inquisition
one that battles time
and arises selfishly
to no one...
My essence
in the distance
entices my most profound
afterthought so effortlessly
subliminally arrived and
enraging an extrinsic
expectancy, watching the
elusive transparent presence
beneath your smile as your
precocious lips hold
a pretentious tremble
mouthed silently into
an echo living
in the dying throes
of a single species
never again allowed
the touch of a timeless
all-consuming
universal light…
