Unsure Poem by Serena Blackinton

Unsure

I look into your eyes and see the pain inside
The hunger within makes me want to hide
I can't get close to you, so I'll build this wall:
Brick by brick, all around my soul.

I'm so unsure of how I feel there is nothing within
I don't know what to say or even where to begin
So many times before I've laid myself on the line
I never saw the knives go in; they say love is blind.

Just back it up a little, I‘m still trying to heal
I don't want intimacy, I don't need to feel
You don't wanna love me, you don't need more pain
I'm not gonna lose myself, not gonna bleed again.

But here we are together and I dunno what to do
So much is said between us, how much of it is true?
Can I believe it when you tell me just how much you care?
Is it true that you can always be there?

This is why I won't love you, why I will just walk away
I'm over the drama; love's too high a price to pay,
Just take it a day at a time, you'll see it all unfurl…
It will be clear soon enough I was never meant to be your girl.
