Vain Poem by Phyllis Strong

Vain

What good is our name in lights,
If we can't light someone else's light?
What good is our morning,
If we didn't help someone through their night?

What good is having more than enough,
If we don't have a heart to give?
What good are spoken words,
If they don't inspire someone to live?

What good is our compassion,
If we don't make someone's day?
What good is having a title,
If you don't preach the whole truth of the Bible,
And that Jesus is the way?

What good is your faith;
If you don't stand on your faith?
Speak and live what you believe;
Speak the truth in love,
You will be persecuted;
But is it God, or man, you want to please?

What good is having worldly success,
If our family life is a mess?
What good is living in a mansion,
If it isn't a haven of rest?

To sum it up;
Life is vain,
If it's not a life that gives.

And when we die,
We have to give an account
Of the life we chose to live.
