Versimilitude Poem by Samantha Jenks

Versimilitude

This is the dark abyss
Where a heart used to beat
When smiles weren’t far and few
Before I lost faith in love, lost faith in trust
Restless nights I respire in sorrow
Laying here bathing in my silent tears
But I won’t waste a whisper upon deaf ears
Kill me slowly I love it that way
Share a smile of agony
And I’ll wear it everyday
You have the human right to be happy
So go get happy
But where does that leave me
My heart on your sleeve
And I can’t seem to breathe
The memories are kept below the surface
Where the love still flows
The owner and protector of a shattered core
You were always the exception
But like a plague of infection
You became the same as all the rest
For love is nothing but a fable,
The beginning of deceit
The only reality,
Are the rivers running from your eyes
You have verisimilitude
But I could never see through
Couldn’t peer into your soul
I never knew the real you
Oh I’ve had an epiphany you see
You’re not quite the angel I thought you’d be
