Vincent Van Gogh Was Surely A Genius Poem by Francis Duggan

Vincent Van Gogh Was Surely A Genius

Vincent Van Gogh was surely a genius but he died in dire poverty
His sad life was so full of sadness and few as unhappy as he
He died at his own hands in madness doesn't life seem so very unfair
The one who had lived as a pauper his art has made many a new millionaire,
Vincent Van Gogh he was a great person and one can say he had a great soul
Mental illness and lack of recognition on him surely did take a toll
Life for him it did become too much as he fought with his ghosts of depair
The weight of the World seemed on him his cross for him too heavy to bear
His brother Theo was his best friend but Theo's health was not good
He did his best to promote Vincent for him he did all that he could
But Vincent he fell into despair he was not destined for to grow old
The stories of his many struggles in book form and film is told,
He died in a bout of depression he did not live to grow old and gray
Now recognized as a great artist his art is worth millions today.
