Vinous Poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Vinous

Vinous

He had been a heavy drinker but was able to stop
I met him one day he was the boss of a building firm
had golden rings on fingers and wore a camel
haired overcoat his face was tanned from recent
holiday in Spain; a prosperous man
He spoke about his new life had been sober for twenty
years and drove a Jaguar and I was impressed
although I noticed he appeared hectic like something
was following him about.
Then the drink caught up with him he lost his status
work and self-worth lives in a caravan by the sea,
he had lost the battle and given up trying to be temperate again
